December 11 NORAD and Santa ClausFor more than 50 years, NORAD and its predecessor, the Continental Air Defense Command (CONAD) have tracked Santa’s Christmas Eve flight. The tradition began in 1955 after a Colorado Springs-based Sears Roebuck & Co. advertisement for children to call Santa misprinted the telephone number. Instead of reaching Santa, the phone number put kids through to the CONAD Commander-in-Chief's operations "hotline." The Director of Operations at the time, Colonel Harry Shoup, had his staff check radar for indications of Santa making his way south from the North Pole. Children who called were given updates on his location, and a tradition was born. In 1958, the governments of Canada and the United States created a bi-national air defense command for North America called the North American Aerospace Defense Command, also known as NORAD. One day, there was a blind man sitting on the steps of a building with a hat by his feet and a sign that read: "I am blind, please help." A creative publicist was walking by and stopped to observe. He saw that the blind man had only a few coins in his hat. He dropped in more coins and, without asking for permission, took the sign and rewrote it. He returned the sign to the blind man and left.
That afternoon the publicist returned to the blind man and noticed that his hat was full of bills and coins. The blind man recognized his footsteps and asked if it was he who had rewritten his sign and wanted to know what he had written on it.The publicist responded: "Nothing that was not true. I just wrote the message a little differently." He smiled and went on his way.
The new sign read: "Today is Spring and I cannot see it."
Sometimes we need to change our strategy. Sometimes it's not what we say that makes the difference; it's how we say it.

December 09 Le mal existe-t-il ?Un professeur universitaire a défié ses étudiants avec cette question. Est-ce que Dieu a créé tout ce qui existe ? Un étudiant a bravement répondu, oui, Il l'a fait ! le professeur a dit, Dieu a tout créé ? Oui, monsieur, a répliqué l'étudiant. Le professeur a répondu, « si Dieu a tout créé, il a donc aussi créé le mal puisque le mal existe et selon le principe de nos travaux qui définissent ce que nous sommes, alors Dieu est mauvais.» L'étudiant était silencieux devant une telle réponse. Le professeur était tout à fait heureux de lui-même.
Un autre étudiant a levé sa main et a dit, « Puis-je vous poser une question, professeur ? » Bien sûr, a répondu le professeur. L'étudiant a répliqué: « Professeur, le froid existe-t-il ? » « Quel genre de question est-ce, cela ? Bien sûr qu'il existe. Vous n'avez jamais eu froid ? » a répliqué le professeur. Le jeune homme a répondu: « En fait monsieur, le froid n'existe pas. Selon la loi de physique, ce que nous considérons le froid, est en réalité l'absence de chaleur. Tout individu ou tout objet possède ou transmet de l'énergie. La chaleur est produite par un corps ou par une matière qui transmet de l'énergie. Le zéro Absolu (-460°F) est l'absence totale de chaleur; toute la matière devient inerte et incapable de réagir à cette température. Le Froid n'existe pas. Nous avons créé ce mot pour décrire ce que nous ressentons si nous n'avons aucune chaleur. L'étudiant a continué.
« Professeur, l'obscurité existe-t-elle ? » Le professeur a répondu: «Bien sûr qu'elle existe ! » L'étudiant a répondu: « Vous avez encore tort Monsieur, l'obscurité n'existe pas non plus. L'obscurité est en réalité l'absence de lumière. Nous pouvons étudier la Lumière, mais pas l'obscurité. En fait, nous pouvons utiliser le prisme de Newton pour fragmenter la lumière blanche en plusieurs couleurs et étudier les diverses longueurs d'onde de chaque couleur. Vous ne pouvez pas mesurer l'obscurité. Un simple rayon de lumière peut faire irruption dans un monde d'obscurité et l'illuminer. Comment pouvez-vous savoir l'espace qu'occupe l'obscurité ? Vous mesurez la quantité de lumière présente. N'est-ce pas vrai ? L'obscurité est un terme utilisé par l'homme pour décrire ce qui arrive quand il n'y a pas de lumière. »
Finalement, le jeune homme a demandé au professeur, « Monsieur, le mal existe-t-il ? » Maintenant incertain, le professeur a répondu: « Bien sûr comme je l'ai déjà dit. Nous le voyons chaque jour. C'est dans les exemples quotidiens de l'inhumanité de l'homme envers l'homme. C'est dans la multitude des crimes et des violences partout dans le monde. Ces manifestations ne sont rien d'autre que du mal ! »
L'étudiant a répondu, « le Mal n'existe pas Monsieur, ou au moins il n'existe pas de lui-même. Le Mal est simplement l'absence de Dieu. Il est comme l'obscurité et le froid, un mot que l'homme a créé pour décrire l'absence de Dieu. Dieu n'a pas créé le mal. Le Mal n'est pas comme la foi, ou l'amour qui existe tout comme la lumière et la chaleur. Le Mal est le résultat de ce qui arrive quand l'homme n'a pas l'amour de Dieu dans son coeur. Il est comme le froid qui vient quand il n'y a aucune chaleur ou l'obscurité qui vient quand il n'y a aucune lumière. »

It is the adventure of John Woodson who decides to find a mysterious Peruvian manuscript containing nine spiritual insights. Through various difficulties and an understanding of the prophecies, his researches lead him to reach a higher level of consciousness.
We will see if the movie is as much captivating as the book!

July 23 Buddha Versus Christ La version française est après!
When I had a course on Buddhism, my professor asked the students to write a critique on Buddha, using some scriptures translated in English as point of reference. While I was reading his life, I realized some similarities between Buddha and Christ’s life. I chose to argue few themes only. Since it was a 5 pages essay and I wish to keep you awake, I will reproduce here only an abridged conclusion without any explanatory analysis. The sources used are the scriptures translated in Edward Conze’s book Buddhist Scriptures and the Gospels related in the New Testament, Psalms and Proverbs. (See the sources at the end.) Observations. When we look at their birth, we observe that both parents had an unusual dream before the birth of their son: when the time of giving birth came, witnesses confessed that they saw shining stars in the sky where the children were living; after their birth, there was an aged clairvoyant in both cases who did not have a lot of time left to live and who gave a prediction on their goals and futures, which are to teach salvation. At age 30 for Jesus Christ and age 35 for Buddha, both men received an initiation: they were tempted by an evil spirit who tried to keep them (in their body, heart and mind) separated from God (for Jesus) and away from the final enlightenment, Nirvana (for Buddha). Both figures were successful over the evil spirit. Both teachers taught that fasting is a method that can lead to God (for Jesus) or Nirvana (for Buddha). When the time to die came, both sources mentions that the Earth experienced environmental turbulences. Have fun making your analysis on those observations !

Quand j’avais un cours en Bouddhisme, mon professeur a demandé que l’on écrive une critique sur Bouddha en utilisant des textes sacrés traduis en anglais comme point de référence. Pendant que je lisais l’histoire de sa vie, j’ai réalisé quelques similarités entre la vie de Bouddha et celle du Christ. J’ai choisi de commenter quelques thèmes seulement. Comme c’était un essai de 5 pages et que je ne veux pas vous endormir, je vais reproduire ici la conclusion abrégée sans analyse explicative. Les sources utilisées sont les textes sacrés traduis par Edward Conze dans son livre Buddhist Scriptures et les Évangiles parus dans le New Testament, Psalms and Proverbs. (Voir les sources mentionnées ci hauts.)
Observations.Lorsque nous regardons leur naissance, nous observons que les parents des deux enfants ont eu des rêves inhabituels avant la naissance de leur fils : quand le temps de l’accouchement est arrivé, les témoins ont confessé qu’ils ont vu des étoiles brillantes dans le ciel, localisées là où les enfants étaient nés. Suivant la naissance, il y a eu un clairvoyant âgé dans les deux cas, dont il ne restait que peu de temps à vivre et qui a donné une prédiction sur leurs buts et destinés, laquelle est reliée à enseigner le salut à l’humanité. À l’âge de 30 ans pour le Christ et de 35 ans pour Bouddha, les deux personnages ont reçu une initiation : ils ont été tentés par le Malin qui voulait les garder (dans leur corps, cœur et pensée) séparé de Dieu (pour Jésus-Christ) et éloigné de l’Illumination finale, le Nirvana (pour Bouddha). Les deux individus ont vaincu le Malin. Les deux personnages ont également enseigné que le jeûne est une méthode qui peut conduire à Dieu (pour Jésus) et au Nirvana (pour Bouddha). Quand le moment de leur décès est survenu, les sources mentionnent dans les deux cas que la terre a subi des turbulences environnementales. Faites votre analyse à partir de ces observations ! Since I also study in the field of contemporary spiritualities, I thought that It could be interesting to add some notes on the subject.

Durant les sept dernières années, j'ai voyagé aux États-Unis et au Canada, j'ai rencontré des gens fantastiques et j'ai vu des endroits merveilleux. Je suis donc très heureuse de partager avec vous plusieurs de ces souvenirs que j'ai rapporté avec moi pour toujours...
Puisque j'étudie dans le domaine des spiritualités contemporaines, j'ai pensé que ce serait intéressant d' ajouter quelques notes sur le sujet.
Je vais faire de mon mieux pour rendre cette visite agréable. Une petite note en passant : puisque j'écris et que je pense en anglais la plupart du temps, il est fort possible que je torture accidentellement la grammaire française, moi qui un jour ne faisais presque plus d'erreur en français. C'est ce qui arrive lorsqu'on se concentre pour apprendre une deuxième langue. Bonne visite ! MJ :-)
